Looking for a free Spam Filter or Email filter for Home to Stop Junk Mail? If you’re not using gmail or Windows Live, then listed below are some excellent packages:
K9 – (keir.net/k9.html) is an email filter that works in conjunction with your regular POP3 email program and automatically classifies incoming emails as spam (junk email) or non-spam without the need for maintaining dozens of rules or constant updates to be downloaded. It uses intelligent statistical analysis that can result in extremely high accuracy over time.
K9 learns from its mistakes and becomes better and better at being able to identify spam. More importantly it learns to recognize what you consider to be spam. K9 is for standard POP3 email accounts only. It does not directly support Hotmail, AOL or any other kind of webmail type systems, nor does it support SSL or secure authentication as used by MSN.
Email Filtering for the Home
SpamPal – sits between your email program and your mailbox, checking your email as you retrieve it. Any email messages that SpamPal considers to be spam will be “tagged” with a special header; you simply configure your email client to filter anything with this header into a separate folder and your spam won’t be mixed up with the rest of your email anymore! You can maintain a white-list of senders that will always be accepted, as well as a blacklist of senders that will always be rejected (tagged). The program offers a handy auto-whitelist which can automatically add frequent contacts to the list and exclude them from ever being tagged as spam.
Email Remover – Email Remover allows you to delete emails from the email server (pop3 server) without having to download them. The program allows the user to download the headers and selectively delete messages.
Spamihilator – works between your Email-Client-Software and the Internet and examines every incoming eMail. Useless spam mails (Junk) will be filtered out. This process works completely in the background. The new Learning Filter (Bayesian Filter) uses the rules of Thomas Bayes (English mathematician, 18th century) and calculates a certain Spam-Probability for every eMail. You can train this filter! So it will know your messages even better than you and continuously increase the recognition rate.
In addition Spamihilator uses a Word-Filter, that searches messages for known keywords. Of course, Spamihilator supports Plugins. These useful additional filters protect your system against annoying Spam-Messages. The program runs with almost every Email-Software, such as Outlook 2000/XP/Express, Eudora, Mozilla, Netscape, IncrediMail, Pegasus Mail, Phoenix Mail, Opera, etc
MailWasher – is a spam detection and mail preview tool that allows you to check the mail on the server and delete any spam before you download it to your local computer. It can notify you when new mail arrives and automatically mark suspicious messages, so you can preview and delete them. There are 3 levels of spam detection, and you can specify your own filters. MailWasher also offers the option to exclude your friends from spam checking and verify email addresses against DNS blacklist servers. You may also choose to send a fake bounce message, which will make your email address appear invalid to the sender. Free version is limited to one POP3 email account.
Spam Weasel – gets rid of spam before it arrives in your inbox. It acts as a local POP server that filters spam according to both objective and personal criteria. It can delete or archive it while placing an optional warning notice on any suspected spam mail it allows through to your mailbox. When suspect spam mail is marked for rejection, you can delete it directly at the ISP even before it reaches your mailbox. Alternatively, Archive Viewing allows you to collect and divert unwanted mail away from your active mailbox and action or delete it at leisure.
